Rachel's Blog

Hello,

I'm Rachel, the new VP (Women).  I work on campaigning and welfare issues which relate to women in some way.

If I don't update this blog much, I'm always available by email (women@ousu.org) and if you ever want to go out for coffee to discuss something relating to OUSU or women's campaigning/welfare or whatever, just get in touch.

Here's what I've been working on this summer:

- Writing the new Unplanned Pregnancy Handbook
- Writing the new Student Parents Guide
- Writing some women-related sections of the Survival Guide
- Improving OUSU's access work for women
- Holding a picnic for Student Parents
- Organising the Safety Bus with Brookes
- Improving our support group for people with disordered eating, Enough!
- Meeting other people involved with this kind of work such as FEST, the Cambridge Women's Officer and the NUS National Women's Officer
- Working on the OUSU report to the University Auditors

And here's what I'm working on for next term:

- Freshers' Fair with a WomCam stall, a Pro-Choice stall and a Safety Bus stall
- Training volunteers for the Safety Bus
- A welcome event for freshers' interested in Women's Campaign
- A Student Parent Orientation
- Bi-weekly 'Tea and Toys' group for student parents
- Study Skills sessions for women
- The wonderful and amazing Gender Equality Week, coming in 3rd week, being ably managed by Kat Wall
- A campaign to encourage more women to stand in Oxford elections (CR/Union/OUSU/societies)
- A free dinner for Women's Officers
- A discussion group for gay women at Oxford
- A Reclaim the Night March

If you're interested in any of these events, want more details or want to get involved, just email me.

Cheers,
Rachel
